PermaLink Broken Promises. No Pork, No Earmarks, what is next03/02/2009 11:04 AM

It seems President Obama has been paying mere lip service to reigning in uncontrolled pork and spending in the federal government. Today he will sign the omnibus appropriations bill with 9000+ earmarks and untold spending {link}. So clearly his statements of absolutes are are relatively absolutes unless they conflict with another part of his untold and out-of-control agenda.

So what is next. Well the Attorney General who thinks we are all cowards has declared the water boarding is "a form of torture that the Obama administration could never condone." How long will it be before that principle is left by the way side as other seem to be.

And do not try to tell me it is out of respect for human life. Confirmed abortionists have no claim to that supposed moral high road.

Is it really possible to live up to every promise that you make? I am not saying he is right or wrong, but seriously, there are bound to be some promises made that can't be kept. As it stands now, everything is so partisan it is appreciated that at least something is happening.

It's easy to predict what is next. Just take whatever the president says, and that is not what he means. Simple, really.

I liked Senator Barney Frank's comment about it. To (mis)quote, he said "Yes, there's stuff there that shouldn't be. Its not all perfect and it can never be. If you don't want politics to be involved in something, don't hand it to hundreds of politicians to get done."

You asked:

Well the Attorney General who thinks we are all cowards has declared the water boarding is "a form of torture that the Obama administration could never condone." How long will it be before that principle is left by the way side as other seem to be.

By this do you mean, "How long before we go so bad that we're back to the horrendous practices of the last administration?"

If that's what you mean, I hope it will take a long time.
